The pelvic floor is a complex system of muscles, ligaments and connective tissue that supports the pelvic organs and provides urine and stool control. When any of these components are not functioning properly, it can lead to pelvic floor dysfunction (PFD), which can cause a variety of symptom. These symptoms can include bladder and bowel incontinence, constipation, low back or pelvic pain, pelvic muscle spasms, urinary frequency, and painful intercourse. It is also common in pelvic pain conditions such as interstitial cystitis, endometriosis, vaginismus, and vulvodynia.
